Mindfulness and Music
Let's Connect, w/ Keith MacPherson
What does it mean to be mindful? Does mindfulness always need to involve sitting in silence and concentrating on our breath, or can we find more creative ways to practise mindfulness that are better suited to our personalities and lifestyles? Today, I explore the topic of creative mindfulness with coach and singer/songwriter Katy Oberle, and we dive into what mindfulness means to us and how we can use it to relieve stress, enhance mood, and help us navigate through the inevitable ups and downs of life.
EPISODE 5
Using Creativity to Bring Mindfulness and Compassion Into Your Life
Electric Ideas, w/ Whitney Baker
The reciprocal relationship between mindfulness and creativity is fascinating. Sometimes when we’re our most tapped in and mindful, we invite in powerful waves of creativity. Other times, when we’re out of sync, creative endeavors can be a vehicle for exploration and expression that helps us ease back into more mindful rhythms.
In today’s episode I talk with Katy Oberle, a licensed psychotherapist turned Creative Mindfulness Coach and singer/songwriter. Katy is passionate about expanding the definition of mindfulness to include creative, nature-based and embodied practices. She coaches clients to develop their own “brand” of mindfulness that honors their innate creativity, life circumstances, values and goals. Katy believes that when our wise creative spirits come out to play, healing and transformation can happen at all levels.
Katy shares with us what it means to practice mindfulness and some of the benefits that come with it. Additionally, Katy talks about being mindfully creative vs. creative mindfulness, provides advice on how to tap into compassion for ourselves and different ways to be creative.
Katy and I would love to hear your take on creative mindfulness and how you implement it. Share today’s episode on Instagram and be sure to tag us - @katyoberle and @whitneywoman!
EPISODE 4
Writing Love Songs
Steam Scenes, w/ Elle Greco
I know just enough about music to be dangerous (and write rock star romances!). So I am super excited to branch out on the podcast with singer-songwriter Katy Oberle. Katy also worked as a couples therapist before transitioning to creative mindfulness coaching so she knows a thing or twelve about intimacy. This is a fascinating conversation about the neurological functions of love and sex and how they are not all that different from how our bodies respond to things like music and romance books. Plus we discuss the lyrics from her beautiful love song Ghost Town.
EPISODE 3
Finding Walden Within
Faith and What Resonates, w/ New Faith New Media
Katy Oberle is a singer songwriter based in Columbus Ohio who describes her music as spiritually-centered folk-pop influenced by the traditions of Unitarian Universalism and Buddhism. On this episode Gail and Katie discuss Katy’s journey to UUism, her spiritual connection to songwriting as well as her connection to nature and how that connects to the story of her upcoming EP Driftwood.
EPISODE 2

EPISODE 1
How To Live Creatively
The Songwriter's Podcast, w/ Anne Sibley, Ep. #10
“If we look around, there is always something to be grateful for and some kindness we can give.” - Katy Oberle
Stars and algorithms aligned to connect me with Katy Oberle, a singer-songwriter friend who I like to call a creativity goddess! She uses her love and talents both for mindfulness and music to share her gifts and practices for healing.
Following a career as a therapist, she now runs Katy Oberle Creative where she coaches individuals and businesses in mindfulness practices while deeply nourishing the creative lives of others.
On today’s episode we get grounded with Katy and hear her sweet songs, “Walden” and “Shine” with her beautiful soprano vocals and peace filled lyrics from two of her recent albums. We talk about the meaningfulness of playing music in hospital settings and how music provides connection, kindness and more love in the world. So grateful to Katy for sharing her music and wisdom with us on the podcast.
